Expensify Card

The Expensify Card Skips the Receipt. It Still Needs to Hit the Right Budget.

The Expensify Card is Expensify's own corporate charge card, issued through a bank partner rather than linked from whatever bank your company already uses. Charges post straight into Expensify in real time, and for purchases under a set dollar threshold, Expensify treats the transaction data itself as a valid e-receipt, so most day-to-day spend never needs a photo or a manually built expense report at all.

What the Card actually automates

The normal Expensify flow is receipt, then SmartScan, then an expense report, then approval, then reimbursement or an accounting sync. The Card skips most of that chain for its own transactions. A charge posts, Expensify already knows the amount, the merchant, and the date, and under the IRS's own threshold for electronic records, it doesn't need a scanned receipt to back it up.

That changes who's floating the money, too. A card tied to the company means an employee isn't paying out of pocket and waiting to get reimbursed, and an admin sees spend the moment it happens instead of finding out when an expense report lands in their queue days or weeks later.

Where the Card still needs a human

Skipping the receipt doesn't mean skipping the judgment call. The Card still needs a cardholder to tag each charge to a category, a client, or a project, and Expensify has no way to know whether that project's budget has room left, because the budget usually lives in a project-management or job-costing tool Expensify has never heard of.

The other gap is offboarding. Expensify doesn't know when someone left the company unless a person goes and deactivates that Card manually. For a business running HR in one system and Expensify in another, that's a manual step that's easy to forget on a Friday afternoon.

What We Build on Top of the Expensify Card

Spend checked against the real budget, in real time

A Card transaction tagged to a project or client gets checked against that project's remaining budget the moment it posts, with anything that would push it over flagged immediately instead of surfacing three weeks later in a report.

Offboarding that deactivates the Card too

An employee marked terminated in your HR system triggers an automatic Card deactivation the same day, pulled from HR directly instead of depending on someone remembering to log into Expensify and lock it.

What's still manual between your Card spend and the rest of your business?

Budget checks and offboarding are two patterns we see often, not the only ones. Tell us what you're still cross-checking by hand and we'll look at what's actually worth building.

Running the Expensify Card and still cross-checking it against a budget somewhere else?

Tell us what that budget or job code lives in, and we'll give you a straight read on what's worth connecting. And if the Expensify Card isn't actually the piece costing your team time, that's fine too, n-frames automates whatever's manual in a business, card spend included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Expensify Card?+
A corporate charge card issued through Expensify's own bank partner, not a card your company already has linked into the app. Its transactions feed into Expensify directly in real time, and it typically carries no annual fee, with cash back tied to how much the company spends on it.
Do I still need a receipt for Expensify Card purchases?+
Usually not. Expensify's e-receipt feature treats the Card's own transaction record as a compliant receipt for charges under a set dollar threshold, a rule the IRS allows for electronic records. Larger purchases above that threshold still need an actual receipt attached.
Is the Expensify Card different from just linking our existing company credit card?+
Yes. A linked card from your own bank still has to import transactions on a delay and generally still needs a photographed receipt for every charge. The Expensify Card's direct feed and e-receipt treatment are specific to Expensify issuing the card itself.
Does the Expensify Card reconcile itself against our books?+
For the accounting side, mostly yes, Expensify matches Card transactions to the right ledger entry automatically in most cases. Where it still needs a person is anything involving a budget, project, or job code that lives outside Expensify, since Expensify has no visibility into that system on its own.
