Smokeball

Smokeball Captures Billable Time on Its Own. We Connect Where That Time Goes Next.

Smokeball is cloud-based legal practice management software built around automatic time capture: it records billable time from what you're actually doing on a matter, document editing, calls, research, instead of relying on someone remembering to start a timer, alongside matter management, document automation, and billing. We don't sell or configure Smokeball. We build the automation that connects its time, billing, and matter data to the rest of a firm's systems.

What we build on top of Smokeball

Smokeball's automatic time capture and document automation solve the problem they're built for well. Where firms still lose time is getting that data out of Smokeball and into whatever system is supposed to use it next.

Billing data synced to your firm's accounting system. Time and billing captured in Smokeball usually needs to show up correctly in a firm's broader accounting software too. We build that sync so nobody's exporting a spreadsheet at month end to reconcile the two.

Document automation that triggers the next step. A document finished through Smokeball's templates often needs to go somewhere after it's generated, out for e-signature, over to a client, into a separate file repository. We build the handoff so that happens automatically instead of someone opening a second application.

Matter stage changes that reach people outside Smokeball. A matter hitting a new stage in Smokeball is a real signal; we connect it to a client notification or internal task in whatever system the right person is actually watching, using Smokeball's API.

Where this shows up in practice

Captured time, reconciled without the export

Time Smokeball captures automatically throughout the month flows straight into the firm's accounting system on a schedule, so month-end is a quick check for mismatches instead of a manual re-entry pass.

A finished document, routed on its own

A document generated through Smokeball's template engine goes out for signature or over to the client the moment it's marked ready, instead of sitting until someone opens it and sends it by hand.

What's leaving Smokeball as a spreadsheet at your firm?

Tell us what you're exporting or re-entering around Smokeball's billing or document data. We'll walk through how to get that data moving without the export step.

Let's talk

Running Smokeball and still exporting its data by hand to use it elsewhere?

Tell us what's not connected yet, your accounting software, a document workflow, a client update that still means someone picking up the phone. And if Smokeball isn't actually where the friction lives at your firm, that's fine too, we build on top of whatever system is.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Smokeball?+
Smokeball is cloud-based legal practice management software for matter management, document automation, and billing, built around automatic time capture that records billable time from what's happening on a computer rather than a manually started timer.
How much does Smokeball cost?+
Smokeball doesn't publish flat pricing on a simple rate card. Cost depends on firm size and which plan tier a firm needs, so getting an actual number means requesting a quote directly from Smokeball.
Is there a Smokeball app?+
Yes, Smokeball has a mobile app so attorneys and staff can review matters, time entries, and documents away from a desk.
Is Smokeball good?+
It's well regarded specifically for its automatic time capture and document automation, which cut down on the two things small and mid-size firms most often lose billable time to. That said, picking a vendor isn't something we weigh in on; what we can say is the firms we build integrations for run it without issue.
Where do I log into Smokeball billing?+
Through the Smokeball billing portal link your firm's administrator set up. We don't handle Smokeball login support directly since we don't run the platform itself.
Does Smokeball have an API for integrations?+
Yes. Smokeball exposes an API that custom integrations, including the ones we build, use to read and write matter, time, and billing data instead of relying on manual exports or re-entry.
