Help Scout's Shopify App Puts the Order Right in the Sidebar. It Only Remembers the Recent Ones.
Help Scout's native Shopify app installs straight from the Shopify App Store and pulls customer lifetime value, average order value, and full order detail into the conversation sidebar, with buttons to refund, cancel, edit, or duplicate an order without leaving the ticket. The catch sits in Help Scout's own wording: those actions and that detail are scoped to a customer's most recent orders, not their full order history.
What the native app actually covers
It installs the easy way. You add it from the Shopify App Store the same way you'd add any other Shopify app, then connect it to the Help Scout inboxes you want it in. No API keys to generate by hand and no separate plugin purchase.
The sidebar carries real context. Contact details, lifetime value, average order value, and full line-item detail (products, discounts, totals) show up next to the conversation automatically, with one click through to the full order or the customer's Shopify profile if an agent needs more.
Agents can act on the order, not just read it. Refunding, canceling, editing, or duplicating an order can happen right from the sidebar, with the result reflected back in Shopify immediately. That's a genuinely deep integration for a help desk sidebar app, not just a read-only summary.
It's a trusted connection, not a side project. Help Scout joined the Shopify Plus Certified App Program, which is Shopify's own vetting for apps it's comfortable recommending to its larger merchants.
Where 'most recent orders' stops being enough
Help Scout's own documentation describes the refund, cancel, edit, and duplicate actions, and the order detail around them, as applying to a customer's most recent orders. For a first-time buyer that's the whole story. For a repeat customer, a subscriber, or someone disputing something from a few months back, it isn't. An agent can still see that older history exists, but getting the specifics means leaving the ticket and opening Shopify directly, which is exactly the tab-switch this integration is supposed to remove.
The documentation also never mentions running more than one connected Shopify store. WooCommerce's own Help Scout plugin explicitly supports and labels multiple stores in the sidebar; Shopify's app simply doesn't say either way. A brand running two or three storefronts through one Help Scout inbox is working from an assumption, not a documented answer.
What we've built on top of Help Scout and Shopify
A subscription brand selling through Shopify had agents handling a steady stream of 'this isn't my first issue with this order' conversations, where the relevant order wasn't the customer's most recent one. The native sidebar showed the latest purchase clearly, but anything before that meant opening Shopify admin and searching by hand, every single time.
We built a sidebar extension that pulls a customer's full Shopify order history, not just the most recent run, and keeps it sorted by relevance to what the conversation is actually about rather than just by date. Agents now see the order in question directly, whether it happened yesterday or six months ago, without leaving Help Scout at all.
Running Help Scout's Shopify app and still opening Shopify admin for anything older than the last order?
Tell us how far back your agents actually need to see, and whether you're running one Shopify store through Help Scout or several. We'll build the sidebar extension that covers the gap the native app leaves, on top of the connection you already have. And if Shopify isn't where your real bottleneck sits, we'll go look at whatever is.
