Square's Website Builder Shares a Catalog With Your Register. Orders Need Somewhere to Go Next.

Square Online is a free e-commerce website builder bundled with a Square account, letting you build a storefront hosted at a square.site address, or a connected custom domain, that automatically shares the same catalog and inventory as your in-person Square point of sale. We don't design or build that storefront for you. We build what happens once an online order actually comes in, routing it to fulfillment and keeping it in sync with systems Square doesn't talk to on its own.

What Square Online actually gives you

Square Online builds a storefront directly from the same catalog your in-person Square POS already uses, so an item, its price, and its stock count stay consistent between the register and the website without a separate upload or export. That native sync between in-person and online is a real feature Square already handles on its own, not something that needs building.

A free tier gets a basic site live at a square.site address. Paid tiers remove Square's own branding, allow a custom domain, and add features like abandoned-cart follow-up emails and coupon codes, which show up in the same dashboard as everything else running the online store.

Where Square Online's native sync stops

Square keeps the online store and the in-person register in sync with each other by default. It doesn't extend that same sync to a separate warehouse system, a third-party marketplace, or an accounting platform, any of which still needs its own connection built if the business sells or tracks inventory somewhere Square itself doesn't reach.

An online order also still needs to become a real fulfillment task somewhere, picked, packed, and shipped, which Square's dashboard will show you but won't act on by itself. For a business running any real volume through the online store, someone's either watching that dashboard constantly or something's watching it for them.

What we build on top of Square Online

Online orders that create a fulfillment task on their own

A new Square Online order triggers the pick, pack, and ship step in whatever system actually runs your warehouse, instead of someone checking the Square dashboard to catch new orders manually.

Inventory kept honest beyond the two channels Square already syncs

Stock counts extended out to a marketplace listing or a separate inventory system Square doesn't talk to natively, so a sale anywhere actually updates everywhere, not just between the register and the website.

Running Square Online and still watching the dashboard for new orders?

Square keeps the register and the website in sync with each other automatically. Everything past that, fulfillment, a second sales channel, your books, usually still needs a person noticing an order came in and doing something about it by hand. Square Online's just this page's example. The same gap shows up in any storefront that stops syncing at the edge of its own dashboard.
