FieldEdge's Flat Rate Book Quotes Every Job the Same Way. Is the Price Still Right?
FieldEdge Flat Rate Mobile is the built-in pricing book that gives every technician the same preset price for the same task, so a job gets quoted the same whether it's the newest hire or the owner standing on site. It traces back to Coolfront, a standalone flat-rate pricing tool FieldEdge's parent company acquired and folded directly into the platform. What it doesn't do on its own is update itself when your real costs change.
How Flat Rate Mobile actually works
A library of priced tasks, not a blank quote screen. Instead of a tech estimating labor and parts from memory, Flat Rate Mobile holds a catalog of common jobs ('replace capacitor,' 'install thermostat') each with a set price already baked in that bundles labor and materials together.
The tech picks the task on their phone or tablet. On site, the technician searches the book, selects the matching task or tasks, and the price comes up already set. No mental math, no two techs quoting the same repair differently.
One book, used company-wide. Whoever updates the price list sets it once for the whole business, so a customer gets the same quote for the same job regardless of which technician the dispatcher sent out that day.
Built on Coolfront's original approach. FieldEdge's parent company (ESC) acquired Coolfront, a standalone flat-rate pricing product, and built it into FieldEdge directly as Flat Rate Mobile. It's why you'll still see people searching for it by the old name.
The part a fixed price book can't do by itself
A flat-rate book only stays fair to the business if the prices in it still reflect what parts and labor actually cost. When a supplier raises the price of a part, someone has to notice, open the book, and edit the task price by hand, and in practice that update often lags the real cost change by weeks or months.
It gets harder with more than one location. A multi-branch HVAC or plumbing operation running separate FieldEdge accounts, or separate price-list versions within one account, ends up with branches quoting the same repair at different prices because each one's book drifted out of sync with the others on its own schedule.
What we build on top of FieldEdge's price book
Prices that move with real cost
A supplier price increase shouldn't sit unnoticed in your flat-rate book for a month.
- ■A feed from your supplier's cost sheet or distributor portal flags any task priced against a part that just got more expensive
- ■A margin threshold triggers a review task instead of silently eating the cost increase on every job booked after the price changed
One book across every branch
Multiple locations shouldn't mean multiple versions of the same price list drifting apart.
- ■Price changes made once propagate to every connected FieldEdge account or branch instead of needing a manual update per location
- ■A side-by-side report flags any task where two branches are quoting a different price for the identical job
What's still manual in your pricing book?
Tell us how often your Flat Rate prices actually get reviewed against real supplier costs, and we'll map out where a fix would actually pay off.
Running FieldEdge Flat Rate and updating prices by hand?
Tell us how your pricing book gets updated today, who does it, how often, and from what source, and we'll look at turning that into something that runs on its own. And if the manual grind in your shop lives somewhere other than the price book, that's just as fair game.
