Freshsales Has a Full API. Most Accounts Never Call It.

Freshsales' REST API gives programmatic access to contacts, accounts, deals, leads, tasks, and appointments, authenticated with a per-user API key you generate from your own profile settings. It's the same data the workflow builder and mobile app both use, just available to whatever else your business runs. Most teams generate that key once during setup and never look at it again.

What the Freshsales API actually does

The API mirrors the interface closely: contacts, accounts, deals, leads, tasks, appointments, and notes are all readable and writable, along with whatever custom fields your account has added to any of them. Authentication is a per-user key from your own profile, not a separate developer application process.

It also ties into Freshsales' own workflow automation through webhooks: a workflow rule can call an external URL the moment a deal changes stage or a field updates, instead of another system having to poll Freshsales on a schedule just to find out.

The native workflow builder is genuinely capable for rules that only need Freshsales' own data. It stops being enough the moment a rule needs to check something external, whether an account is already paying somewhere else, whether a support ticket is open, and that's exactly where API-driven automation picks up the slack.

What We Build With Freshsales' API

Workflows that check outside Freshsales before acting

A deal doesn't get auto-tagged "ready to close" until billing history or support status, pulled from a completely separate system, actually says it's safe to.

Deal data that shows up where it's actually needed

Invoice status, contract value, or onboarding stage surfaced on records outside Freshsales entirely, so a team doesn't have to open a second tab to know where an account stands.

What does your Freshsales workflow builder not know about yet?

Something outside Freshsales it should be checking before it fires. Tell us what it is.

Got workflow rules in Freshsales that only know what Freshsales knows?

Tell us what else those rules should be checking before they fire, a payment status, a support ticket, a field living in a completely different system. We'll build the connection through the API. And if the rule that needs fixing isn't in Freshsales at all, we build that version too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find Freshsales API documentation?+
In your Freshsales account settings, under the API Settings section, which links to the current developer documentation and shows where to generate your own key.
Do I need to be a developer to use the Freshsales API?+
Someone on the build side does, yes. The API itself is conventional REST with standard key-based authentication, so it's not an unusual integration for anyone who's built one before.
Does the Freshsales API support webhooks?+
Yes, through its workflow automation feature. A workflow rule can trigger a webhook call to an external URL when a record changes, instead of that system having to poll for updates.
Is API access included on every Freshsales plan?+
Freshworks changes its plan structure periodically, so check current pricing to confirm which tier your account needs for full API access.
