Xero

Xero's Reports Are Solid. Your Board Deck Usually Needs More.

Xero ships standard financial reports (profit and loss, balance sheet, income statement) plus a custom report builder for building your own layouts and management reports from the same underlying data. It covers a lot on its own, but most businesses eventually hit a report, a comparison, or a combined view that the builder genuinely can't produce, and that's where we build something custom against the data directly.

What Xero's reporting actually covers

Standard reports (profit and loss, balance sheet, income statement, and the rest) update live off your books and let you compare periods, filter by tracking category, and export to PDF or Excel. For most monthly close routines, this is genuinely enough.

The custom report builder goes further: you can start from a template or from scratch, choose your own rows, columns, and groupings, and save the result as a reusable management report. Xero also supports report templates, which matter if you manage several organizations (a bookkeeping firm with multiple clients, say) and want the same report structure applied consistently across all of them rather than rebuilt one org at a time.

Where it stops: cross-entity comparisons for businesses running more than one Xero organization, anything that needs non-Xero data sitting next to the financials (sales pipeline, headcount, operational KPIs), and highly specific board-level formatting that the builder's layout options genuinely can't produce no matter how much you fight with it.

When a custom report builder isn't enough

A lot of businesses hit this wall the same way: someone spends an hour every month manually exporting two or three Xero reports, pasting them into a spreadsheet alongside numbers from somewhere else, and reformatting the whole thing to look presentable for a board or a lender. It works, until the person who built that spreadsheet is out sick the week it's due.

We build the pipeline that pulls straight from Xero's API into whatever format leadership actually wants to see, refreshed on a schedule instead of assembled by hand every month, with non-Xero numbers sitting right alongside the financials instead of pasted in separately.

What we build on top of Xero reporting

Consolidated reporting across multiple Xero organizations

If you run more than one Xero entity, separate currencies, separate legal structures, we build the combined view that pulls every organization into one dashboard instead of exporting and merging each one by hand.

Dashboards that mix Xero data with everything else

We connect financial numbers from Xero to operational data from your CRM, your ops system, or your spreadsheets, so leadership sees one picture instead of three separate exports stitched together manually.

Still rebuilding the same board report from scratch every month?

Tell us what that report actually needs to show, and we'll tell you what it would take to make it refresh itself.

Spending hours every month reformatting Xero exports into a real report?

Describe the report you're rebuilding by hand and we'll scope a version that pulls itself together automatically. Reporting is one example of manual rework we fix; the same approach applies to any recurring export-and-reformat task in your business.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I build a custom report in Xero?+
From the Reports menu, choose New Report or start from an existing standard report and customize it, then adjust the rows, columns, and groupings to match what you need. Save it once it's set up so you can run it again without rebuilding it.
What are Xero management reports?+
A set of reports (often profit and loss, balance sheet, and a few custom additions bundled together) built for internal review rather than statutory filing, usually produced monthly for an owner, a board, or investors to track performance.
Can Xero generate consolidated reports across multiple organizations?+
Not natively in a single view. Each Xero organization reports on itself, so combining several into one consolidated picture takes either manual exporting and merging, or a custom-built pipeline that pulls from each organization's API.
Can I save a report template in Xero to reuse across clients?+
Yes. If you manage multiple organizations, you can save a custom report as a template and apply the same structure across different Xero files, instead of rebuilding the layout for each client individually.
What's the difference between Xero's standard reports and the custom report builder?+
Standard reports are fixed formats (profit and loss, balance sheet) that update automatically off your books. The custom report builder lets you define your own layout, rows, and groupings from the same underlying data when a standard format doesn't show what you need.
