Acumatica's Manufacturing Edition Plans the Work. Getting Real Shop-Floor Data Into It Is a Different Problem.
Acumatica's Manufacturing Edition adds bills of material and routings, production order management, and a built-in MRP engine to the core ERP, planning material needs off actual demand rather than a spreadsheet someone updates weekly. Shop-floor data collection runs through a mobile app where a worker scans a barcode to log time and quantities, which covers a lot of ground but still assumes a person is standing there doing the scanning, and that's usually where our work with manufacturers running Acumatica picks up.
What Manufacturing Edition actually covers
The core pieces are bills of material and routings that define what a product needs and the steps to build it, production orders that track a job from release to completion, and an MRP engine that plans purchasing and production off sales orders, forecasts, and current stock rather than someone eyeballing a reorder point.
Estimating and a product configurator sit on top of that for manufacturers quoting engineer-to-order or configure-to-order work, where the bill of material isn't fixed in advance and has to get built out as part of the quote itself.
Shop-floor data collection, where Acumatica tracks what's actually happening on the floor, runs through a mobile app: a worker scans a barcode to clock in or out of an operation, and that updates the production order's progress in close to real time.
Where a person scanning a barcode isn't quite enough
That mobile scanning flow is built around a person doing the scanning. A machine or a PLC that already generates its own cycle counts, run times, or sensor readings has no native path into Acumatica's production order; the data either gets re-entered by hand off a machine's own display, or it just doesn't make it into the system at all.
The other place we see gaps is a business running more than one production facility, often after an acquisition, where the second plant is still working off its own spreadsheet or an older standalone system instead of Acumatica. MRP can only plan accurately off demand and supply it can actually see, so a plant invisible to Acumatica means the planning numbers for the rest of the business are working with incomplete information.
What We Build Around Acumatica's Manufacturing Edition
Machine data landing on the production order without a person re-keying it
When a machine or PLC already tracks its own cycle times or counts, we build the connection that posts that data into Acumatica's production order directly, instead of someone copying numbers off a machine's display into the mobile app by hand.
A second plant's production feeding Acumatica's MRP accurately
For a business running a facility that isn't on Acumatica yet, often after an acquisition, we build the sync that gets its production and stock data into Acumatica so the MRP engine plans off real numbers instead of a blind spot.
What's not reaching Acumatica's shop floor data yet?
A machine, a second plant, a quality system: tell us what it is and we'll map it against Acumatica's manufacturing data.
Running Acumatica's Manufacturing Edition but still bridging a machine or a plant by hand?
Tell us what isn't making it into Acumatica on its own, a machine's own data, a second facility, a quality check, and we'll scope what's buildable against its manufacturing data. And if production isn't actually where your manual work lives, that's fine too. We build automation around whatever's eating time in your business, not just the shop floor.
