Copper Has a Real API. Most Accounts Never Call It.

Copper's REST API gives you programmatic read and write access to the same People, Companies, Opportunities, Leads, and Activity records the Chrome extension shows you, authenticated with an API token you generate from your own account settings. It's the same data, just available to any system you want to connect, not only Gmail. Most Copper accounts generate that token once during setup and never touch it again.

What the Copper API actually covers

Copper's API is REST-based and mirrors what you already see in the interface: People, Companies, Opportunities, Leads, Activities, and Projects, plus whatever custom fields you've added to any of them. You authenticate with a token tied to your own account, and from there you can read, create, and update records the same way the Copper web app does behind the scenes.

It also supports webhooks, so instead of another system polling Copper every few minutes to see if anything changed, you can have Copper notify it the moment a deal moves stage, a new lead comes in, or a custom field gets updated. That piece sits unused in a lot of accounts, not because it's hard to find, but because nobody on the team owns building it.

The API doesn't cover everything the interface does. Some bulk actions, a handful of reporting views, and newer features released into the UI first tend to stay API-shy for a while, which is normal for a CRM this size. When a workflow needs something the API genuinely won't expose, we automate the interface directly instead of waiting on an endpoint that might never ship.

What We Build With Copper's API

Push a won deal straight into billing

So an invoice shows up in QuickBooks or Xero the moment a deal closes in Copper, built from the actual deal data instead of someone retyping it.

React to Copper the moment something changes

Webhook-driven updates instead of a nightly batch sync, so another system finds out about a stage change or a new lead within seconds, not the next morning.

Something in Copper's interface the API doesn't reach?

If a bulk action, a report, or a newer feature is UI-only right now, tell us. We can usually still automate it directly against the interface.

Got a Copper account full of data nothing else can see?

Tell us what's supposed to happen the moment a deal closes or a lead lands, and we'll build the connection, through the API where it reaches, through the interface itself where it doesn't. Copper's just today's example; the same build works for whatever else in your business is still running on someone remembering to do it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find Copper's API documentation?+
In your Copper account, under Settings, there's an API & webhooks section with your token and a link to the current developer documentation, covering every object the API exposes and the webhook events you can subscribe to.
Does Copper have a public API?+
Yes. Copper ships a REST API as part of the product itself, available from your own account settings without a separate developer sign-up or approval process.
What can I connect to Copper besides its built-in Google Workspace and marketplace integrations?+
Anything with an API or a way to receive a webhook, in practice: accounting software, project tools, support desks, internal dashboards. If there's no native connector for it, that's custom integration work built against Copper's API.
Do I need to be a developer to use Copper's API?+
Someone does, yes, whether that's an in-house developer or an outside team. The API itself is well-documented and conventional REST, so it's not an unusual lift for anyone who's built an integration before.
